Because people have predicted that emerald green is 2013's Color of the Year, images like these are popping up all over the internet. This room, I saw in The Interior Revolution blog, reminded me of a room I painted a few years ago for Designer, LouAnn Bauer, and her client in San Francisco...
The walls of this Victorian home were pale and non-descript...

So I started by rough rolling several layers of royal blue and lime green on paint...

Then scrubbed layers of green and blue glaze over the surface to soften the texture and add depth to the color.
The key to this finish is knowing when to stop. When the roller textures became shadows of color, I knew I was done.
I added a custom houndstooth stencil to the frieze details below the crown molding for modern graphic contrast that tied to the Designer bedding.
