Oh Say Can You See!

I'd never suggest you do this to your house (not ever). But I do think it's cool that someone had the idea, the courage, the creativity, the tenacity...

I'm totally up for a little patriotism, just not quite this bold.

Here's how I would do it: I was just in Pennsylvania working on a makeover project for CertaPro Painters (can't wait to show you!)...

We drove past this house on the way to a vintage shop and I screeched, "Stop the car! I need a picture of that!!"

I mean, seriously, have you ever seen a house like this? Or windows like this?

And how is it that this star spangled dwelling has gone so unattended?

I jumped out of the car and found myself clutching my heart, reverently mouthing the words- the revised words, that is- to our anthem... "Oh, say can I get my hands on this!

This is a no brainer: besides opening up the rooms, remodeling the kitchen (I actually have no idea what the interior looks like- but I can dream, right?), stripping the floors, making the front window bigger, adding sustainable and energy efficient upgrades, and putting my piano right in the middle of the great room...

I'd paint the exterior like this:

Yes, purple-y gray- it reminds me of dusk, liberty, sky, purple mountains...

This yummy saturated earth red is definitely NOT mauve- please see note about about color names.

Sorry about this unfortunate color name. I don't name them- I just choose them.

See how the theme comes together without hittin' you over the head?

The weight of this gorgeous stone color will bring out all the other colors in this palette.
