I found these stocky little mid-century bentwood chairs at a flea market covered in a funky Turn-of-the-Century (the 19th Century!) green brocade with gimp trim hanging off the sides! As I deconstructed the chairs, I found some beautiful little nails and sweet old leather on the backrest... little treasures emerged that I wanted to preserve. I decided to cover the seats in linen prints of my Rough Diamond painting on the seats, and paint everything else. It took me awhile to find the right paint for this pair. I started with gray, considered blue, and offered them for sale in metallic copper! Some answers take a little time and fussing to get right. I finally painted these chairs in chalkboard black with a topcoat of flat varnish for soft satin finish that lets all the best details shine through. I'm so glad I was patient, so happy with the results and excited to see the adorable home where this sweet set will land.
