Good Fortune
For a group show, Shannon created an installation of sixteen plaques displaying fortune cookie slips with a box of fortune cookie slips for viewers could take for themselves. What's unique about the fortune cookie slips is that the were affirmations she wrote for herself, had printed at a fortune cookie factory, then mounted them to plaques covered in rich layers of paint and wax. They are 'real' fortunes because Shannon wanted to see if they could bring her 'real' good fortune and make her dreams come true.
When Shannon wrote the fortunes she had no idea how much people would be seeking the same futures or looking to create some good luck of their own.
The project led to a series of unique and interactive projects, like the custom limited edition plaque designs with fortunes that Shannon writes for companies and membership organizations. She also designs bolster pillows and hand towels with her fortunes embroidered in red thread on white linen. She has experimented with yardage by the yard and takes special commissions to create any kind of art, home accessory or installation piece for your home or business.
