Carving Out Your Own Success- Brown Pigeon's Meagan Lewis

My friend and fellow artist, Meagan Lewis, creator of Brown Pigeon, and one of Etsy's best sellers, was approached by Chronicle Books to create her first book, Put Your Stamp On It! SK: What's your favorite project in the book? ML: My favorite project at the moment would probably be the "Scrap Rubber Photo Boxes". When you begin making your own carved stamps, you'll quickly notice that you've acquired a pile of scrap pieces. When my own scrap pile began to overflow, it hit me! I mounted the scraps onto a block of wood, inked that up, and was delighted by the pattern it created. SK: Who should buy this book? ML:This book can be enjoyed by the beginning stamp...

MidSummer Night magic: a visit to Tres Sabores with Project B

It's kind of amazing how tiny moments and exchanges can align like stars to create something magic... I got a phone call from someone looking for help with their home. I met with her and jumped right into moving things around to bring her family time and favorite things together... we have a wonderful conversation and next thing you know we're talking about dance, my brother and her friend, Tanya Bello, the Artistic Director at Project B. Dance... and next thing you know, I'm walking up the path of Tres Sabores Winery in Rutherford, California to this magnificent scene... Dancers from Project B. on platforms in the vineyard... and on the hillside... and emerging from the underground cellar with a...

Doing it Like Dolly

Okay, this may be a little of 'design' target, but in light of losing beloved and troubled artist, Whitney Houston, I'm going to write about it anyway. It was getting late (after midnight late) but I sat there determined to get all the content loaded on my new website- ah the drudgery, the torment, the unfairness of it all! I felt a bit overloaded and underwhelmed by the task at hand as my television rambled on. Then about 11 o'clock, Dolly Parton came on the Biography Channel and I couldn't look away. I've never doubted her talent, business savvy, smile... As I watched though, I also couldn't help but notice her joy, laughter, wit, intelligence, generosity, creativity... and mostly her...

But Wait, There's More...

Who inspires you? Who motivates you to do more? The list goes on and on for me, so I just jotted down the few that bubbled to the top when I sat down this morning. Check them all out, or make your own list and surround yourself with people, messages, music, that make you feel like you can take on the world. Who knows what you might create for yourself! Have a great weekend everyone. Memory Lane and Walking with my Brother...

My trip to Portland was way too short, but I did get to spend some time with Lane (yea!). We have a ritual- when one of us comes to visit, the other selects a cool street to explore. But since we didn't have time for a whole row, Lane showed me some high points like this unbelievable light bulb store- yep, light bulb store. Talk about making room for more, Kay Newell opened Sunlan Lighting in 1989 after stints as a private detective, restaurant manager, dental hygienist, and advertising writer just to name a few. At a brief job at a lighting firm, Kay decided to sell light bulbs herself so she dove into technical manuals and catalogs educating herself...
