Carving Out Your Own Success- Brown Pigeon's Meagan Lewis

My friend and fellow artist, Meagan Lewis, creator of Brown Pigeon, and one of Etsy's best sellers, was approached by Chronicle Books to create her first book, Put Your Stamp On It! SK: What's your favorite project in the book? ML: My favorite project at the moment would probably be the "Scrap Rubber Photo Boxes". When you begin making your own carved stamps, you'll quickly notice that you've acquired a pile of scrap pieces. When my own scrap pile began to overflow, it hit me! I mounted the scraps onto a block of wood, inked that up, and was delighted by the pattern it created. SK: Who should buy this book? ML:This book can be enjoyed by the beginning stamp...

Week 2 Painting- Torn Landscape

So far, I'm really enjoying this resolution of completing one painting a week. This piece was inspired by two things... [caption id="attachment_7432" align="alignnone" width="500" caption="1. This dresser design I created and painted for the DIY Channel this past Summer. I tore pieces of posterboard to create jagged edges that became stylized landscape rows..."][/caption] [caption id="attachment_7433" align="alignnone" width="500" caption="2. ...and Meagan Lewis, awesome friend and founder of of Brown Pigeon stamps, saw the dresser and said, "Oh, I could make a bunch of those landscapes and hang them on my wall!" or something close to that."][/caption] I'm so used to working big (think a kitchen full of cabinets, 9' walls...) that her idea to create several landscapes on a small scale...

My Village People- part 3

They say, it's not what you know, but who you know. I couldn't agree more! Case in point, Meagan Lewis, founder of Brown Pigeon created the X and O stamps for my stair project. I found her 'randomly' last year while looking on Etsy for custom stamps and homemade booklets for an event I was planning. Her stamps are so creative and precise, I had to come up with a way to use her work in the videos. I gave her the concept for the shapes which she turned into the perfect size and style. Gotta love when a plan comes together. Megan has a beautiful book coming out with Chronicle and continues to expand her horizons on with her...

DIY Videos are UP! Thanks to my Village People

STEP RIGHT UP! READ ALL ABOUT IT! My videos for the DIY Channel are finally up! I'm so excited, not only because it's been a major work in progress for several months, but also because I can't wait to share these easy and colorful projects with you AND celebrate so many of the people who helped me get this all done. It really does take a 'village' to accomplish great things, and I happen to have the best tribe! So this week, I'm sharing behind the scenes details (along with links to the videos!) about the people and projects to show you how it all comes together. I'm starting with my brother, Lane, because I honestly, couldn't have done this...
