I'm so fortunate to share this exhibit and opening evening with such good company. Jennifer Perlmutter is a fellow fine artist and gallery owner who has championed my work since we met and I couldn't be more grateful for her encouragement and support.

As we developed the title for this exhibit, If Walls Could Talk, we talked about text in art and the nostalgic themes that come up around memories and the rooms we grew up in, the hobbies and pastimes that took up our time and connected us with others. It made me think of another artist I admire, Margaret Timbrell, who combines the traditional art form of needle point and vintage materials with current themes and applications steeped in wonderful quirk and irony.

So, here we are sharing the stage bringing our complementary materials and messages together in a beautiful setting that celebrates art and life with a big fat welcome mat.

Many of you know me for hosting on television, producing videos, and residential color consulting. At the root of it all, I'm a painter inspired by the patterns and materials found in our homes. For my art, I use salvaged plywood and doors as canvas, and work with common renovation tools and materials from trowels and steel wool to furniture wax and latex paint. It's the best way for me to honor our larger environment and reflect the themes of my work with authenticity. Written in a spontaneous stream of consciousness style, many of the writings in my work are based on my own memories. Sometimes the pattern comes first, sometime the story idea, but always they come from a personal place.

This is a wonderful opportunity to see my newest and most personal work, to chat with each other in a wonderful setting and to meet some of my favorite people. I hope you'll join us!
